    A summer quilt, or summer doona, is a lighter-filled quilt for warm nights, and the first thing to compare is the fill and the weight. The summer quilts here are filled with bamboo blends, wool, cotton, microfibre or duck down, and the weights stated in the titles are 200GSM, 250GSM and 300GSM. A 200GSM quilt is the lightest weight listed on this page. Several are Australian made, and the Luxor and Bianca ranges come in sizes from single to super king.     How to choose a summer quilt

    Start with the fill. The Luxor quilts are filled with 40% bamboo and 60% microfibre, the Giselle Bedding range has a duck down and feather fill and a bamboo and microfibre fill, and the Bianca quilts are filled with bamboo, microfibre or Australian wool. The Shoppers Home 300GSM quilt uses 100% cotton for both cover and fill, and the 250GSM Australian made quilt uses a polyester filling.

    Then the weight. The Luxor and Giselle quilts are 200GSM, the Bianca bamboo quilt and the Shoppers Home Australian made quilt are 250GSM, and the Bianca microfibre and wool quilts and the cotton quilt are 300GSM. GSM is grams per square metre of filling, so a higher number means more fill.

    Check size and care. The Bianca listings give single as 140 x 210cm, double as 180 x 210cm, queen as 210 x 210cm, king as 245 x 210cm and super king as 270 x 240cm; the Easyrest quilt lists king as 240 x 210cm, so sizes vary by brand. Most listings say machine washable, but the Easyrest bamboo and wool quilt lists a dry cleaning recommendation, so read the care label before you wash.
