Room Dustbins

A room dustbin is a small bin for a bedroom, bathroom or office, as opposed to a kitchen or outdoor bin. This page holds stainless steel pedal bins from 3L to 8L, open-top and leatherette room bins at 10L, dual compartment bins for general waste and recycling, and a 32L wall mountable polypropylene bin. All but one of the bins are from Dolphy, and most of the listings name hotels or hotel rooms.

How to choose a room dustbin

Start with how the lid should work. A pedal bin opens with your foot, so there is no need to touch the lid, and several listings add a soft-close lid. An open-top bin has no lid, and the listings describe it as quick to use. The 10L leatherette room bin has a two-piece construction that hides the bin liner. Then choose the size from the table, and decide whether you want one compartment or two: the dual compartment bins are for general waste and recycling.

Frequently asked questions

What size room dustbin do I need?

The listed capacities are 3L, 5L, 6L and 8L for the pedal bins, 10L for the open-top and leatherette bins, 14L for the two dual compartment bins, 32L for the Plaza and 80L in total for the large recycle bin. The last column of the table gives each bin's listed dimensions.

What is the difference between a pedal bin and an open-top bin?

A pedal bin has a lid that you open with a foot pedal, so your hands stay off it, and several of the Dolphy listings add a soft-close lid. An open-top bin has no lid, and the listings describe it as quick and convenient for disposal.

Are there room dustbins with two compartments?

Yes. The Dolphy 14L bins have two 7L containers, one in metal and ABS and one in wood with a leather finish, and the stainless steel recycle bin has a 40L general waste compartment and a 40L recycling compartment.

What is a leatherette room bin?

It is a 10L round bin with a leatherette finish and a brushed stainless steel rim. The listings give a two-piece construction that conceals the liner and a rubber base for stability and floor protection, in brown or black.

Can a room dustbin be wall mounted?

The Dolphy Plaza 32L bin is listed as wall mountable or freestanding, in black or white. The other listings do not give a wall mounting option.

Which bins have a removable inner bucket?

The black and white 5L round pedal bins list a removable inner bucket for easy emptying and cleaning, and the 14L metal and ABS dual compartment bin lists removable compartments.
