Above ground is the sensible first pool: it costs a fraction of an in-ground pool, needs no excavation, and comes down at the end of summer. Set it on level ground with a ground cloth underneath, because a pool on a slope puts all its weight on one wall.

Anything holding water deep enough to swim in needs a filter pump sized to its volume and, in most Australian councils, a compliant fence. Check your local rules before buying, because the depth threshold varies by state and the fine does not.
