Cotton Sheets

Cotton sheets

Cotton bedding including 1000TC Egyptian cotton sheet sets, 100% cotton fitted sheets with a 40cm deep pocket and elastic all round, and linen-cotton blend sets, in sizes from cot and single up to super king, mega queen and mega king.

How to choose cotton sheets

100% cotton or a blend. Titles here range from 100% cotton, such as the Bianca Heston 300TC cotton percale sets, to blends: Accessorize and Ramesses list bamboo cotton, several sets are described as cotton rich, and some are linen cotton or polyester cotton. If you want pure cotton, look for 100% cotton in the listing.

Egyptian and Pima cotton. Ramesses lists Egyptian cotton sateen at 1100TC, 1450TC and 1500TC, the last as Elite fitted sheet combo sets, and American Pima cotton at 1000TC. Shoppers Home lists 1000TC Egyptian cotton sheet sets and fitted sheet sets with two pillowcases, and Elan Linen lists a 500TC Egyptian cotton percale.

Flannelette for winter. Bianca Fletcher flannelette cotton sets and Accessorize cotton flannelette sets are listed with a 40cm wall, along with ICF Store cotton flannel combo fitted sheet sets.

Pocket depth and sizes. Where a title gives a wall depth it is most often 40cm, with 50cm on some percale combo sets and mega and super sets. Sizes run from cot and single through king single, double, queen and king to super king, mega queen and mega king, with some long single sets.

Cotton sheets compared

Thread count is not the whole story

Above roughly 600TC the yarn quality matters more than the count, which is why a good 400TC Egyptian cotton sheet can feel better than a cheap 1000TC one. Percale weaves crisp and cool; sateen feels smoother and warmer. The number worth checking first is the pocket depth - 40cm covers a mattress with a topper, where a standard 30cm sheet will keep pulling off the corners.

Also worth a look: 1000TC+ premium sheets, microfibre sheet sets as an alternative to cotton, and linens and bedding for quilt covers, pillowcases, pillows and quilts.

Beyond sheets there are comforter sets, coverlets and bedspreads, plus mattress toppers.
