A home projector is chosen on three things: its native resolution, its brightness and how far it sits from the wall or screen. The four projectors here are mini and portable models, three from Devanti with Wi-Fi, HDMI and a remote, and one USB-powered 1080P mini projector. The page also holds a 120 inch tripod screen and a folding projector stand.

How to choose a home projector

Native resolution. Three of the four list a native 1920 x 1080 picture. The Devanti mini 4K model lists a native resolution of 1280 x 720 and says it accepts 1080p and 4k input, so the 4K in the title refers to the input it accepts, not to its native picture.

Brightness. A projector needs a dark or dimmed room to look good. The Devanti listings give brightness in ANSI lumens (150 on the two mini models, 230 on the Android model), while the USB mini projector lists a range of 2000 to 4999 lumens. The two scales are not the same measurement, so compare ANSI figures with ANSI figures.

Distance and screen size. The recommended projection distance is 2 to 3m on the Devanti 1080P mini, 0.85 to 4.7m on the 4K mini and 0.9 to 6.1m on the Android model, with maximum screen sizes of 250, 180 and 200 inch. Measure from where the projector will sit to the wall before you buy. The 120 inch tripod screen is the option for a backyard or a room with no clear wall.

Streaming. The Android model has a built-in Android system, and its listing names Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video. The Devanti mini models support screen mirroring from a phone, tablet or laptop over Wi-Fi.

    Frequently asked questions

Which projectors have a native 1080P picture?

The Devanti 1080P mini, the Devanti Android model and the USB mini projector all list a native 1920 x 1080 picture. The Devanti mini 4K model lists 1280 x 720 native and accepts 1080p and 4k input.

Do I need a screen for a projector?

You can project onto a plain wall. A screen gives a flat surface and works where there is no clear wall: the 120 inch tripod screen is 16:9 and lists a polyester screen with sandbags, windproof ropes and ground pegs for outdoor use.

Can I connect a phone or a games console?

The Devanti projectors list HDMI, USB, AV and audio ports and Wi-Fi screen mirroring from a phone, tablet or laptop. The USB mini projector lists compatibility with iOS, Android and Windows, and says it works with smartphones, PS4 and USB devices.

How big can the picture be?

The listed projection sizes are up to 250 inches on the Devanti 1080P mini, 180 inch on the 4K mini and 200 inch on the Android model. Picture size depends on distance, so check the recommended projection distance for your room.
