How to choose a shade sail

Pick the shape and size. The Wallaroo sails list squares from 2.5 x 2.5M to 10m x 10m, rectangles from 2m x 2.5m to 7m x 5m and triangles from 3.6m to 7x7x7. The Instahut sails list rectangles including 2x4m and 4x6m, a 3x3m square and triangles including a 6.1x6.1x6.1M sail.

Read the shade percentage. The Instahut listings give 95% and 98% shade cloth on sails of 185GSM and 280GSM, and 30% and 50% shade cloth by the roll in 1.83x10m and 1.83x20m. A lower percentage lets more sun through, which suits plants better than people.

Waterproof is a separate thing. Wallaroo's sails titled waterproof list 160GSM, except the 2m x 4m, which gives no weight. Two Instahut sails titled waterproof list 220GSM, and the other Instahut sails titled waterproof, in sand with 95% shade cloth, give no weight. A standard knitted shade sail is a shade cloth, so check the listing for the word waterproof. Water that collects on a waterproof sail needs a slope to run off, so fixings and fall matter.
