    Hospitality trays

    The tray on the bench in a hotel room that holds the kettle, the cups and the tea and coffee sachets. It is a small thing that a guest notices, because the alternative is a kettle standing on a bench with sachets loose beside it.     What a hospitality tray does

    A recess holds the kettle base so the appliance cannot slide when the kettle is lifted off. Shallow indentations hold tea and coffee sachets upright instead of letting them scatter, and there are slots for spoons. One of the melamine trays goes further and leaves room for two mugs and two bottles of water as well. The point of any of them is that housekeeping can reset the whole station in one movement and see at a glance what is missing.

    Choosing a material

    • Melamine — the usual choice, wipe-clean and water-resistant. Three of the five are melamine, and the black one has a deep matte finish that does not show water marks the way a gloss surface does.
    • Beech wood — a natural brown timber tray for rooms where the fit-out is warmer and a plastic tray would look out of place.
    • ABS — the most compact and the most forgiving, water-resistant plastic with an integrated kettle base slot, for high-turnover rooms where trays take a beating.

    Sizes vary by model and are on each product page; the black melamine electric kettle tray, for example, measures 395 x 280 x 20 mm. Measure the bench first — the depth is what usually catches people out, not the width.
